This figure has jumped sharply by 266.5% compared to the same period in the previous year due to global geopolitical dynamics and the depreciation of the rupiah exchange rate.As one of the largest industrial areas in Indonesia with high energy consumption, Karawang Regency also feels the direct impact of volatility in crude oil prices or the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP). This increase demands efficient use of fuel in society.The Ministry of Finance in our APBN report stated that of the total IDR 118.7 trillion, the subsidy allocation was recorded at IDR 52.2 trillion, while the compensation fund reached IDR 66.5 trillion as of March 31 2026. This increase was driven by the increase in the volume of public consumption nationally.In more detail, the realization of subsidized fuel distribution nationally increased by 9.2% from 2.90 million kiloliters to 3.17 million kiloliters. Meanwhile, consumption of 3 kg LPG also increased by 3.8% compared to the previous year.
The impact of this spike in subsidies is also visible in the Karawang Regency area with an increase in the number of subsidized electricity customers. It was recorded that there was an increase in electricity customers by 2.4%, from 41.9 million to 42.9 million customers nationally at the end of March 2026.Not only the energy sector, fertilizer subsidies which are important for the agricultural sector in Karawang also grew 13.6%. The distribution figure increased from 1.7 million tons to 1.9 million tons, which is expected to be able to maintain food security in West Java's rice barn.Apart from that, the People's Business Credit (KUR) program in Karawang and its surroundings is also showing positive growth. The number of national KUR debtors increased by 8.9% from 1 million debtors to 1.1 million debtors, which became the driving force of the people's economy and local MSMEs.Responding to this surge in budget realization, the Ministry of Finance stated that Indonesia has experience in dealing with global energy turmoil. However, the people of Karawang are advised to remain wise in consuming fuel and LPG for the sake of regional fiscal sustainability.
