Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Social Service together with the Karawang Regency Satpol PP arrested 52 people consisting of homeless people, beggars, buskers and scavengers at a number of points in the Karawang City area. This control was carried out following the increasing phenomenon of the arrival of Social Welfare Service Recipients (PPKS) from various areas outside the district who were deliberately looking for a livelihood in the local area.Based on the results of data collection by officers in the field, as many as 34 people were local residents of Karawang, while 18 other people came from outside the area. These migrants are known to have come from a number of areas in West Java, Lampung, and East Java with a shifting pattern of movement in search of better economic opportunities.The Head of the Social Rehabilitation Division of the Karawang Social Service, Marwati, revealed that these people with social welfare problems consider Karawang to offer a more promising potential for daily income. In a day of activities on the streets of this industrial area and crossings, they claim to be able to earn income ranging from IDR 70 thousand to IDR 150 thousand.
Apart from the street income factor, scavengers from outside the area admitted that they were interested in coming to Karawang because of the high selling prices of used or junk goods. The selling price of recycled material in this area was recorded at Rp. 5 thousand to Rp. 6 thousand per kilogram, a figure which is considered much higher than the price in their respective areas of origin.On the other hand, enforcement officers also found six people suspected of having serious mental disorders (ODGJ) at the outreach location. Based on the coordination of assessments with the Health Service, several of them are old patients who experienced relapses due to drug withdrawal, with two of them currently being processed to get referrals for further treatment at mental hospitals.Responding to the phenomenon of urbanization of homeless people and beggars which continue to recur alternately, the Social Service emphasizes that treatment is not enough just by raids or repatriation alone. The regional government is committed to optimizing a comprehensive social rehabilitation program, including proposed skills training and empowerment for four selected people through special guidance from the West Java Provincial Social Service so that they can live more independently.
