Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, Karawang – The Glenmore Farm melon plantation managed by the Karawang Entrepreneur Sejahtera UMKM Foundation (KERSA), especially in Greenhouse 3 (GH3), experienced losses after a number of melon plants wilted due to a power outage that lasted approximately two hours. The melon cultivation system implemented in the greenhouse uses electricity-based irrigation and nutrient distribution. Due to the cessation of electricity supply, the flow of nutrients to the plants was disrupted, which had an impact on the condition of the plants which were in their growth period.Ali, as the garden manager, said that this incident was an important evaluation for the management. According to him, limited capital means that plantations do not have an automatic electricity backup system or alternative energy sources such as solar panels that can be used when there is a disruption in electricity supply."Farming has risks that must be faced, both weather risks, pests, and technical problems such as power outages. This incident is a valuable lesson for us to improve preparedness and risk management in the future," he said. The management hopes that in the future information regarding power outages can be conveyed early to horticultural farmers who use electricity-based irrigation and nutrition systems, so that anticipatory steps can be taken. to minimize the impact that occurs.Despite experiencing losses, the KERSA MSME Foundation remains committed to developing the agricultural sector as a means of community empowerment and education for MSME players. The management also hopes for support from various parties, including the government, companies and other institutions, to help develop modern agricultural facilities and infrastructure that are more resilient to electricity supply disruptions. With the evaluation of this incident, it is hoped that the community-managed horticultural agricultural sector can develop further, be sustainable, and be able to provide greater economic benefits for farmers and the surrounding community.
