Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Karawang Regency Government has once again shown its fangs as a national rice granary by setting an ambitious milled dry grain (GKG) production target in 2026. Through the Department of Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries (DKPP), the Karawang Regency Government has set a production figure of 1,418,000 tons. This target is a strategic increase from the previous year's achievement which managed to reach 1,414,038 tons of dry grain. The Head of the Karawang DKPP Agricultural Facilities Division, Mahmud, revealed that the determination of this figure was very realistic considering the positive trend in the agricultural sector in this region. Even though climate and operational challenges always exist, he is optimistic that this figure can exceed expectations as in previous years. "This 2026 target is a challenge and a big motivation for us to continue to improve the performance of the agricultural sector in Karawang," said Mahmud on Saturday (11/4/2026).One of the main strategies to achieve this target is through accelerating the Added Planted Area (LTT) at various potential points around Karawang. Until April 2026, it was recorded that around 18 thousand hectares of LTT land had been successfully cultivated. The regional government plans to continue to accelerate the expansion of this planting area to ensure that the availability of productive land is maintained amidst rapid industrial development in the region.
Mahmud explained that LTT expansion had a vital role in significantly increasing total dry grain production. With an estimated average productivity of 5 to 8 tons of dry grain per hectare, increasing the land area will make a big contribution to the big harvest in the future. The government's current focus is to ensure that every inch of LTT land can be managed optimally by local farmers so that the results comply with national standards. Apart from expanding land, DKPP Karawang also provides full support through strengthening agricultural infrastructure and providing adequate infrastructure. The farmer assistance program has also been tightened to ensure the distribution of fertilizer, superior seeds and irrigation technology runs smoothly. The success of exceeding the 2025 target has become a capital of confidence for the service staff to make another achievement in the food self-sufficiency sector this year. The 2025 achievement of reaching 1,414,038 tons from the initial target of 1,411,000 tons proves that the synergy between government policy and the hard work of Karawang farmers has produced sweet results. With more modern and integrated agricultural management, Karawang Regency is committed to continuing to maintain its status as the main supporter of rice needs for the Indonesian people, especially in the West Java region and its surroundings.
