Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Karawang Regency Government (Pemkab) is starting to seriously work on an ambitious project to process waste into renewable energy. This year, a budget of IDR 10 billion has been prepared specifically for the construction of sheet piles and land clearing in the Jalupang Final Waste Processing Site (TPAS) area. This step is an absolute requirement that must be fulfilled by the region in order to submit a program for processing waste into electricity to the Central Government.The Head of Cleaning Services Team for the Karawang Environmental Service (DLH), Agung, explained that land development is a crucial aspect in supporting infrastructure readiness before modern waste processing technology can be realized. "This land development is part of the main requirements in applying for processing waste into electrical energy through the central government," said Agung when confirmed, Saturday (28/3/2026).
The administration process for this billion-dollar project is scheduled to soon enter a crucial stage. The auction stage for the sheet pile construction and land clearing project is planned to take place from the end of April to the beginning of May 2026. If the entire process goes smoothly, physical work on the ground is expected to begin in early June after all administrative stages have been fulfilled.Apart from seeking central approval for the electricity project, the Karawang Regency Government has also prepared a "Plan B" to deal with the waste emergency in its area. If the application for processing into electric power has not received the green light, the government will use the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) method. This method is considered to remain effective and is able to reduce the volume of waste significantly by processing it into alternative fuel. The technical readiness at the Jalupang TPAS is expected to be a permanent solution to the waste problem in Karawang which continues to increase every year. With budget support of IDR 10 billion, DLH Karawang is optimistic that Jalupang TPAS will no longer be just a conventional final disposal site, but rather a modern waste processing center that has economic value for the region.
