Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, A different view was seen in the Karawang Regency Government area on Tuesday (31/3/2026) morning. The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Karawang Regency, Asep Aang Rahmatullah, became a hot topic of conversation after he was caught going to the office using a motorbike, instead of an official car. This step was taken as a form of real adaptation to the world geopolitical situation which has triggered an energy crisis, as well as following up on Regent Aep Syaepuloh's direction regarding fuel oil (BBM) consumption efficiency policies within the Karawang state civil service (ASN). By switching from a car to a motorbike, he was able to save fuel usage from 5 liters to only 1 liter per day. "This is part of our adaptation to the central efficiency policy. If this savings pattern is implemented simultaneously by all Heads of OPD and ASN in Karawang, the potential for regional budget savings could reach a fantastic figure, namely IDR 1 billion," said the Regional Secretary optimistically.
This energy saving policy is not just an appeal, but has begun to be implemented systematically for all employees within the Karawang Regency Government. ASN whose homes are less than 5 kilometers away are encouraged to use bicycles, while those more than 5 kilometers away are directed to use motorbikes. The use of official cars is now strictly limited, only permitted for official activities outside the region or locations far within Karawang with a carpooling system (one car for 4 people), in order to reduce ineffective vehicle operations. As a concrete step, Regent Aep plans to withdraw official vehicles from all regional officials to be stored at the Nyi Pager Asih Gallery as long as there are no urgent out-of-town official activities. This area will later function as a central storage pool for official vehicles to ensure regional assets are not misused for personal interests that waste fuel. ASN is now starting to be directed to utilize other transportation alternatives, including the use of electric bicycles which are more environmentally friendly for daily mobility around offices. The action "Hanging to work on a motorbike" carried out by Regional Secretary Asep Aang received widespread appreciation because it was considered a symbol of simplicity and officials' concern for global economic conditions. Despite massive energy savings, Asep Aang emphasized that public service standards for the people of Karawang remain a top priority and will not be disrupted. "In principle, services will continue to run optimally, but we will be efficient on the energy side in order to keep the regional fiscal burden stable," he concluded in front of the media crew.
