Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The government officially enforces strict rules limiting the use of social media for children under the age of 16 starting today, Saturday (28/3/2026). This policy is an implementation of PP Tunas (Governance for the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection) which aims to strengthen the security of the young generation in the digital space. The Minister of Communications and Digital (Menkomdigi), Meutya Hafid, emphasized that there is no compromise for digital platforms operating in Indonesia to immediately comply with these digital sovereignty rules.The one-year transition period given from March 2025 has now ended, and the government is starting to measure the level of compliance of each platform in stages. A number of tech giants have reportedly made major adjustments, including increasing the minimum age limit for users and tightening verification systems. This step was taken to ensure that child protection is carried out universally without discrimination, as is the cyber security standard that applies in various other developed countries.

These platforms are required to carry out strict identification of accounts suspected of belonging to underage users so that the digital space remains healthy.On the other hand, popular platforms such as TikTok and Roblox have only shown partial compliance and are now under strict government supervision. TikTok has conveyed its commitment to gradually deactivate the accounts of users under 16 years old and prepare a special operational roadmap for teenagers aged 14-15 years. Meanwhile, Roblox has begun to limit offline gaming activities for children under 13 years of age to reduce the risk of unwanted interactions in cyberspace.The government emphasizes that Indonesian legal sovereignty must be upheld by every digital business entity seeking profits in the country. For parents in Karawang, this policy is an important momentum to be more selective in monitoring their children's gadget activities to avoid the negative impact of social media. The implementation of PP Tunas is expected to be able to create a safer internet ecosystem and protect the future of Indonesia's young generation from various cybercrime threats.
