Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, A breath of fresh air is blowing for the residents of Karawang Regency who yearn for rail-based mass transportation. The plan to extend the Commuter Line Electric Train (KRL) route to the rice barn area is now showing significant progress. The Regent of Karawang, Aep Syaepuloh, revealed that this strategic project had entered the detailed engineering design (DED) review stage by PT KAI.Regent Aep explained that the acceleration of development was supported by the budget for DED review activities which had been reduced in the current year. This step is the initial foundation before physical work on electricity infrastructure and rail lines is carried out. "KRL Karawang already has a budget for DED review activities for the current year. Thank God, this is a very positive development and I think the process will run quickly," said Aep on Friday (10/4/2026).In the initial design, Karawang Station will function as the main stopping point for passengers. However, to support long-term operations, the final depot and service unit for KRL facilities are planned to be built at Cikampek Station. The construction of a special KRL power plant is also a priority stated in the latest coordination to ensure that the power supply for this modern transportation is met when it starts operating in 2028.

Apart from focusing on routes, the Karawang Regency Government is also preparing to organize the Cikampek Station area in stages. One of the big plans is to open dual access for potential passengers, namely from the front and back of the station, in order to reduce congestion and facilitate public mobility. This step was taken to ensure the comfort of Commuter Line users from the entrance area to the departure platform. Not only about transportation, this connectivity project is also designed to stimulate the local economic sector. Together with PT KAI, the Karawang Regency Government is committed to collaborating with MSME players around the station area. Land arrangements such as at Pasar Plaza, which is now managed by the regional government, will be optimized as an integrated economic center for local residents. This is in line with the Karawang Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) for 2027 which prioritizes quality and equitable infrastructure. The plan for the presence of KRL is predicted to change the face of Karawang transportation as a whole, integrating this region with the Jabodetabek megapolitan network more efficiently. It is hoped that the presence of this cheap and fast mode of transportation will be able to reduce the use of private vehicles and increase the productivity of people who work outside the area and for immigrants who have activities in the Karawang industrial area.
