Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Karawang District Government (Pemkab) through a joint team moved quickly to pick up eight residents of Rengasdengklok District who were stranded in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) District, South Sumatra. These eight residents were victims of fraudulent job vacancies (lockers) as sugarcane workers which were spread widely via social media. This case became public attention after a video circulated of a request for help to the Regent of Karawang, H. Aep Syaepuloh. In the video, the workers reveal their worrying conditions and difficulties in meeting their daily food needs due to wage promises that do not match the reality on the ground. The Head of North Rengasdengklok Village, Nana Suryana, directly led the pick-up process with the joint team. Nana was accompanied by North Rengasdengklok Village Secretary Teguh Permana, Karawang Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office representative Budi Triyono, and Karawang Regency Social Service representative Yanuarius Terunaman.
The incident began when the eight residents were tempted by a job offer as sugar cane workers in the South Sumatra region via social media. The job provider promised high wages of up to IDR 420,000 per day, much higher than their income in Karawang. However, when they arrived at the location, the reality faced was the opposite. They only receive a maximum wage of around IDR 60,000 per day. This amount does not even cover the cost of daily food which reaches IDR 70,000, so the workers are forced to go into debt and experience a decline in physical condition due to lack of nutritional intake. The eight residents who are currently in the process of being picked up to be sent home come from North Rengasdengklok Village and South Rengasdengklok Village. They are Acep Fahrul, Rehan, Erwin, Nandika Gumilang, Indoh, Jihad, Jamal, and Bpk. Aang. This case is a strong warning for the public, especially in Karawang Regency, to be more careful and alert to various fake or fraudulent job vacancies that offer high salaries through social media. The government urges citizens to always verify through official agencies such as the Manpower and Transmigration Service (Disnakertrans) before accepting a job offer outside the region.
