The former Chairman of the Karawang Regency General Election Commission (KPU), Emay Ahmad Maehi, S.Ag., S.H., or who is familiarly called Kang Emay, reportedly died at around 14.20 WIB. This figure, known as a podium lion, activist and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) cadre, breathed his last breath at the Rengasdengklok Proclamation Hospital after receiving emergency medical treatment. The deceased's younger brother, Haris Amin, revealed the seconds before his brother died, which began with a sudden illness at home. At around 13.50 WIB, Kang Emay's second daughter immediately informed her of her father's deteriorating condition until he was finally rushed to hospital at 14.00 WIB. The family stated that it was suspected that the deceased had suffered a heart attack, considering that 20 minutes of medical treatment at the hospital had no results until he was finally declared dead. Kang Emay's death immediately triggered a wave of grief from various levels of society who felt they had lost a unifying figure. The deceased's close friend, Kamaluddin Abdullah, remembered Emay as a very humble person who was able to embrace all groups regardless of background. He is known as a figure who cares about others, helps many colleagues in the struggle, and is a role model for young activists in the homeland of the struggle.
As a Nahdlatul Ulama cadre, the deceased also had great attention to regional progress and harmony between religious communities in Karawang. His closeness to kiai, officials, businessmen and interfaith figures makes him a figure who is accepted by all levels of society, both young and old. The combination of a strong religious and legal educational background makes every thought and contribution of the deceased always become an important reference in various regional discussion forums.The passing of Emay Ahmad Maehi left deep wounds not only for the extended family, but also for the world of democracy and movements in Karawang. Currently the body is being kept at the funeral home to be buried by the family. "He was a uniting figure, we the people of Nahdlatul Ulama feel very lost. Hopefully the late Husnul Khatimah will get the best place in the sight of Allah SWT," concluded Kamaluddin in his testimony.
