Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, Sad news enveloped the residents of Rawamerta District, Karawang Regency. An Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) with the initials JS reportedly dared to jump from the third floor of a building in Cambodia. This reckless action was allegedly triggered by frustration and mental pressure after the victim was trapped in a network of online fraud syndicates in the country. As a result of this risky action, JS suffered serious injuries in the form of serious bone fractures in several parts of his body. Currently, the victim is undergoing intensive medical treatment and is receiving full protection from the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Phnom Penh. The health and safety conditions of the victims are the main priority for the authorities at this time.Chairman of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Association (PBMI), Bobby Anwar Ma'arif, confirmed the incident that happened to the Karawang resident. Bobby explained that currently JS is under strict supervision from the Indonesian Embassy to ensure that his physical and mental recovery goes well after experiencing severe trauma overseas.
"We confirm that JS is a resident of Rawamerta. The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh has taken quick steps to handle this case thoroughly," said Bobby when giving a statement by telephone, Thursday (14/5/2026). He added that assistance in the form of wheelchair facilities and access to routine therapy had been prepared to help victims' mobility.Apart from focusing on medical healing, the Indonesian Embassy was also fighting for victims' administrative matters which had been hampered. One of the crucial points being pursued is the exemption from overstay fines or expired residence permits. This step was taken so that the process of returning or repatriating JS to his homeland would not be hampered by the legality of immigration in Cambodia. In order to speed up the process of returning the victim to his hometown, PBMI synergized with the Karawang West Java Special Team and the relevant ministries. This synergy aims to ensure that JS can be immediately evacuated back to Indonesia to undergo further rehabilitation with his extended family in Karawang. This case has once again become a strong alarm about the dangers of illegal job offers which can lead to the crime of human trafficking (TPPO).
