Creative! UBP Karawang KKN Students Teach West Jomin Residents to Make Aromatherapy Candles from Used Cooking Oil

Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Buana Perjuangan University (UBP) Karawang Real Work Lecture Program (KKN) is again presenting real action that has a direct impact on society. Through service activities held in Jomin Barat Village, Kotabaru District, Karawang Regency, the UBP Karawang KKN team successfully guided the residents of RW 08 to turn household waste into high-value products through training in making aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil on Sunday (12/07/2026). Led by Mahatma Adha Sugwidya as the person in charge or PIC, together with the UBP Karawang KKN implementation team consisting of from Rafif Hylmi Khairullah, Satria Emmir Rafshanzani, Aerly Imeldha Vasyha, Hajjar Mei Wila Putri, Salsabilla Ainun, and Cansius Alma Christian Vieri, this program succeeded in attracting high enthusiasm from housewives. This activity is not only a creative solution to overcome environmental pollution caused by used cooking oil, but also opens up promising home business opportunities.The series of events started at 08.00 WIB at the Gymnastics Field with education on waste sorting based on the 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) concept. In this session, residents received comprehensive insight from various scientific disciplines presented by KKN UBP Karawang students, in order to ensure that the waste processing process runs effectively, safely and sustainably for the surrounding environment.From a pharmaceutical perspective, residents received in-depth education regarding the safety aspects of raw material composition and the health impacts of using chemicals appropriately. This education is very crucial so that the aromatherapy candle products produced are safe and comfortable to use indoors without triggering respiratory problems, thus providing a sense of security for consumers and home producers.

Furthermore, from the psychological perspective promoted by Cansius Alma Christian Vieri, residents are invited to understand the therapeutic and mental well-being aspects of using aromatherapy. Residents were educated on how essential fragrances such as lavender or jasmine can help reduce the stress levels of housewives, create emotional calm in the home, as well as build residents' motivation and self-confidence to be productive at work.Meanwhile, from a management perspective, the Karawang UBP KKN team also provided participants with practical business strategies, starting from analyzing economic value, advantages and disadvantages of products on the market, how to calculate Cost of Goods Sold (HPP) accurately, to digital marketing techniques so that residents are able to manage their business. independently.The highlight of the event was filled with technical guidance (Bimtek) and independent practice in making aromatherapy candles from used cooking oil. The initial stage starts with filtering the oil using a filter cloth and soaking it in activated charcoal for approximately 24 hours to clarify the color and remove the unpleasant odor. "The clean oil is then mixed with stearic acid in a 1:1 ratio and heated at a temperature of 70-75°C until homogeneous before adding coloring and essential oil at a temperature of 60-65°C, then molded in a 10 mL container until it hardens."Our main goal is to process waste that has the potential to pollute the environment into aromatherapy products that have economic value. We hope that this activity can ignite an entrepreneurial spirit for the women in RW 08," said Mahatma Adha Sugwidya, Chief Executive of UBP Karawang KKN, when interviewed by the Seputar Karawang media team after the activity. It is hoped that the end of the training at 11.00 WIB will leave a long-term positive impact, where the residents of West Jomin Village can continue to develop economic independence consistently and sustainably.
