Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, Two boys with the initials RDP (7) and AES (6) died after reportedly drowning in a former excavation pond located in the Puri Raya Residence housing complex, Majalaya District, Karawang Regency, West Java. The tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday (14/7/2026) also involved an eight year old girl (ANP) who was rescued by residents.The incident began when five children were playing around the dug pond area located in Pasirjengkol Village. According to witness testimony, three of the five children decided to enter the pool to swim, while the other two remained on land. The situation turned into an emergency when the three of them did not surface, which then triggered a quick response from local residents.The Head of the Karawang Police Public Relations Section, Ipda Cep Wildan, confirmed that the resident rescue team immediately carried out an evacuation as soon as they received the report. ANP (8) was rescued and received immediate assistance, but RDP and AES were found in critical condition at the bottom of the pond. Even though they were rushed to the Shafa Medika Clinic, the medical team declared the two victims dead.
The police, including the Majalaya Police, the Inafis Team, and the Karawang Police Samapta together with the Karawang Regency BPBD immediately carried out a crime scene investigation (TKP) after receiving the report. The pond area has now been secured for further investigation, while the victim's family stated that they accepted this incident as a disaster and refused to carry out an autopsy on the body.This case has become a serious concern for the authorities regarding the security of public facilities around the housing complex. Until now, the police are still investigating permits and supervision of the former excavation site, including ensuring the existence of guardrails or prohibition boards that should be in high-risk areas to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future.The Karawang Police also appealed to all parents to increase strict supervision of children, especially when playing near rivers, ponds or former excavation sites. Considering that areas with standing water have a very high risk of danger, active participation from parents and adequate security from area managers is the main key in maintaining the safety of children in the surrounding environment.
