Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Karawang Regency Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) carried out a large-scale control action against 152 illegal buildings in the Cikampek area, West Java. This strategic step was taken as an effort by the regional government to organize the area, reduce traffic jams, and restore the function of public facilities that had been neglected. The Head of the Karawang Satpol PP, Basuki, said that the control process was taking place in stages. Before the demolition was carried out, his party had sent a warning letter and given time to the building owner to carry out the vacating and demolition independently. As a result, some of the owners have cooperated, while the remaining 51 buildings had to be forcibly demolished using heavy equipment. "There were 51 illegal buildings that were not dismantled independently. So we carried out the forced demolition using heavy equipment," said Basuki, Thursday (16/7/2026). He detailed that the buildings being demolished included 80 semi-permanent buildings standing on PT KAI land, as well as 72 other buildings on land belonging to the Karawang Regency Government.

This control process involved joint officers from elements of the TNI, Polri, PT KAI, and the ranks of the Karawang Regency Government. Basuki emphasized that the operation was running smoothly without any resistance from the building owners. This step is a follow-up to the agreement between the Karawang Regency Government and PT KAI to revitalize the Cikampek area to make it more orderly. Regarding the fate of the affected street vendors (PKL), the regional government has directed them to occupy the stalls that have been provided in the Cikampek Market area. This is done so that the economic sustainability of the traders is maintained even though their selling locations have been converted into sidewalk areas and city parks for the convenience of the wider community.Even though a number of traders claim to have occupied the land for decades, this arrangement is deemed necessary for the wider public interest. Through this control, it is hoped that the Cikampek area can immediately be transformed into an area that is tidier, free from traffic jams, and has public facilities that are representative for all Karawang residents.
