Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, Hundreds of students who are members of the Karawang Student Executive Board (BEM) held a demonstration in front of the Karawang Regency DPRD Office, Saturday (2/5/2026). This mass action, which was dominated by students from Singaperbangsa University Karawang (Unsika), demanded that the regional government and DPRD immediately present concrete solutions to education and employment problems which were considered to be still ongoing.Since midday, around 500 students crowded into the council office area. They brought various action attributes such as banners and posters with a critical tone, as well as voicing disappointment with the local government which was deemed unable to maximize the potential of the largest industrial area in Indonesia for the welfare of local communities. The President of BEM Unsika, Deril, in his speech emphasized that the issue of education and employment has often been used as a political commodity, but implementation has been minimal. According to him, the existence of thousands of factories in Karawang has not been fully felt by local residents, many of whom still face extreme poverty and difficulty finding work. "Education should not just be a political commodity during elections. People need real policies, not just endless promises," said Deril in front of the crowd.
The action, which lasted from afternoon to evening, was filled with tension. The crowd was disappointed and the atmosphere heated up because they had to wait for hours to be met by the people's representatives who were not there. The tension finally subsided after representatives of Commission IV DPRD Karawang agreed to meet the crowd and opened an audience room in the evening. During the meeting, students urged the DPRD to no longer be slow in responding to community concerns regarding these two crucial issues.Through this action, BEM throughout Karawang hopes that the regional government will immediately evaluate employment sector policies to prioritize local residents, as well as increase the allocation and quality of education so that it is equitable and accessible to all levels of society.
