Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The government has officially established a Work From Home (WFH) policy for State Civil Servants (ASN) one day a week. In an announcement made on Tuesday (31/3/2026) evening, the government designated Friday as the time to implement the national WFH. This bold step was taken as part of a grand strategy for energy efficiency in the midst of an uncertain global situation, and will be implemented effectively as of April 1 2026 in all government agencies, including for ASN within the Karawang Regency Government.Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized that this policy is the government's quick response to reduce national energy consumption. The implementation of WFH every Friday will be evaluated periodically after two months of implementation to see the impact of its effectiveness on productivity and savings on office operational budgets. Further technical arrangements will later be outlined in a joint Circular Letter (SE) involving the Minister of PAN-RB, the Minister of Home Affairs, and the Minister of Manpower to ensure cross-sectoral coordination runs smoothly.
Not only for civil servants, Airlangga also mentioned the implementation of a similar scheme for the private sector which is the backbone of the economy in regions such as Karawang. WFH arrangements for private workers will be specifically regulated through a Circular Letter from the Minister of Manpower while still considering the characteristics and needs of each business sector. It is hoped that this policy will not disrupt the industrial production chain, but will still be able to support the massive and measurable movement for efficient use of energy in the workplace. For ASN and factory workers in Karawang, this news is certainly a breath of fresh air as well as a challenge in adapting to new work patterns. Apart from the aim of saving fuel oil (BBM) and office electricity, the WFH policy every Friday is predicted to have an impact on the mobility of residents on busy routes such as Jalan Raya Galuh Mas and other industrial areas. The regional government is now just waiting for technical instructions from the center to synchronize employee working hours so that public services in Karawang continue to run optimally even though they are carried out online. As this regulation rolls out, the public is asked to remain focused on increasing productivity even though they work from their homes. Energy efficiency, which is the background for this policy, is expected to maintain national economic stability amidst world geopolitical pressures. With the implementation of WFH starting tomorrow, Wednesday 1 April, employees in Karawang are now preparing to welcome a new era of "Productive Fridays from Home" which is expected to be able to provide a balance between state budget savings and work comfort.
