An Isuzu Elf travel car with plate number Z 7012 CN carrying a large family of 20 people had a fatal accident on Jalan Raya Panjalu-Cikijing, Maniis Tonggoh Block, Maniis Village, Cingambul District, Majalengka Regency, Monday (23/3/2026) evening. This tragic incident resulted in the death of six people, of which three victims died at the scene and three others breathed their last while undergoing medical treatment. Based on information from the Head of the Majalengka Police Traffic Unit, AKP Pandu Renata Surya, the accident started when the vehicle was traveling from Panjalu towards Cikijing at around 23.05 WIB. When crossing a downhill road and a sharp bend, the vehicle driven by a driver who was thought to be sleepy and tired suddenly swerved to the right. The surviving witness said that the driver had suddenly swerved to avoid the vehicle in front of him until finally the Elf car went out of control and plunged into a ravine upside down.
One of the victims' families, Aris Syamsul, revealed that all the passengers in the car were members of an extended family consisting of grandfather, grandmother, elderly, and in-laws. It is known that the group had just celebrated Eid in Tasikmalaya and were on their way home to Rengasdengklok via the Majalengka route from Pangandaran. Apart from the driver's fatigue, the temporary suspicion of the cause of the accident was also strengthened by the technical condition of the vehicle which experienced brake failure when crossing a steep slope. Responding to this tragedy, the family immediately coordinated with the village and sub-district government in Karawang to pick up the body. The sub-district has reportedly sent two ambulance units to Majalengka, while additional ambulance units will soon be dispatched to take home the victims, both those who died and those who were injured. Currently, all the victims are still in the nearest hospital in Majalengka waiting for the process of being sent home to the funeral home in Rengasdengklok.The news about the death of a family from Rengasdengklok spread quickly and left deep sorrow for the local residents of Karawang. The police are still carrying out in-depth investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident, while the residents of Rengasdengklok are currently preparing to welcome the arrival of the bodies of the victims. "We feel very lost, this group had just returned from a visit but experienced a fatal accident on the way," said Aris Syamsul in a sad tone.
