This initiative, which was initiated directly by the Regent of Karawang, aims to create regeneration of young farmers while strengthening the agricultural sector in the region. This strategic program is targeted to be realized in the 2027 academic year as a form of real government support for the sustainability of the local food sector.Head of the Karawang Regency Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries Service (DPKP), Rohman, explained that currently his party is intensively preparing technical regulations. The process of drafting these regulations was carried out collaboratively with the Legal Department and the Regional Development Planning, Research and Innovation Agency (Bapperida). "The main focus is to ensure that this program runs on target in accordance with the vision of agricultural development in Karawang."Essentially, we will send the children of farmers to school at the Faculty of Agriculture, Unsika. This program is to produce millennial farmers as the regeneration of farmers in Karawang," said Rohman, Tuesday (30/6/2026). He added that DPKP will utilize a database covering around 85 thousand farmers in Karawang Regency as a basis for collecting data and preparing criteria for scholarship recipients so that the selection process is transparent.
Regarding the target recipients, Rohman emphasized that the main priority is given to children from farming families. However, the government is currently still working on options to open up opportunities for the general public who have a great interest in agriculture, even if they do not come from a farming family background. All of these detailed requirements will later be outlined in official regulations to avoid potential misuse of the budget.Apart from family background, aspects of competence and commitment are crucial assessment points. Prospective scholarship recipients are expected to not only study, but also have the readiness and dedication to take part directly in the agricultural sector after completing the study period. This is considered important to ensure that the knowledge gained at university can be implemented to advance agricultural productivity at the local level.Currently, the Karawang Regency Government continues to speed up the completion of regulations as well as budget planning so that this scholarship can run according to schedule in the 2027 academic year. Through this program, the government hopes to break the chain of shortages of skilled workers in the agricultural sector, so that Karawang is still able to maintain its status as one of the national food baskets with a touch of modern technology and innovative millennial farmers.
