Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, A total of eight residents from Rengasdengklok District, Karawang Regency, were reported to be stranded in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, South Sumatra. They are suspected of being victims of the lure of fake job vacancies as sugar cane workers after receiving offers of high wages which were disseminated via social media. The sad story of these workers from Karawang emerged after a short video circulated showing a request for assistance to the Karawang Regency Government so that they could immediately be sent back to their hometown. In the video, the workers are seen conveying the worrying conditions without having enough money to survive. This incident began when the eight residents received a job offer as sugar cane workers in the South Sumatra region from someone they knew through social media. They were then tempted by the promise of a very large wage, reaching IDR 420,000 per day, a figure much greater than the daily income they usually get in the village. With the hope of improving the family's economy, the eight Rengasdengklok residents left for Ogan Komering Ilir Regency. However, when they arrived at the location, the reality they faced was very different from the initial promise given by the job provider.Instead of earning hundreds of thousands of rupiah per day, they were only able to take home a maximum wage of around IDR 60,000 per day. This amount is even said to be insufficient to meet daily food needs, considering that the cost of daily food at the location reaches IDR 70,000.

As a result of this unbalanced situation, workers not only fail to send money to their families at home, but are also forced to go into debt to be able to eat. The heavy workload and poor nutritional conditions meant that some workers' physical condition continued to decline until they began to fall ill due to fatigue. Based on the data received, the eight residents consisted of six residents of North Rengasdengklok Village and two residents of South Rengasdengklok Village. Aep Syaepuloh, the sub-district authorities, and the local village government to immediately step in to help with their repatriation process. This case is also an important reminder for the public to always be careful about job offers with the promise of large salaries from parties who are not clear and are only known through social media.
