Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Karawang Regency Government, West Java, is firmly controlling hundreds of illegal buildings in the northern region, especially around the Rengasdengklok area, in order to optimize the overall regional planning program. This control measure was led directly to restore the function of public infrastructure, especially drainage and river channels, so that water flow can flow smoothly again without obstacles.Based on official data from the Karawang Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), this control includes the demolition of 117 illegal buildings as well as 78 permanent private and public bridges that stand over water channels. This structuring operation is focused along strategic routes, starting from Jalan Raya Cikangkung to roads in the Jayakerta, Tirtajaya and Batujaya sub-districts.The Regent of Karawang, Aep Syaepuloh, explained that the existence of illegal buildings and bridges over water channels has been the main trigger for the narrowing of river flows which leads to flood disasters when the rainy season arrives. "The water flow is not running optimally, so when high-intensity rain falls, the water easily overflows and inundates roads and residential areas because the water channels are filled with illegal buildings," he said in an official statement in Karawang.
Apart from focusing on normalizing water channels and preventing floods, the Karawang Regency Government is also preparing long-term steps in the form of building new alternative road infrastructure. The connecting route that stretches from Tanjungpura to Rengasdengklok is planned to be built right next to the irrigation and integrated directly into the Rengasdengklok Proclamation New Market area. The presence of this new alternative route in the northern region is considered very strategic because it not only functions to reduce residents' daily travel time. Moreover, this connecting infrastructure is projected to be able to provide a big boost to the efficiency of logistics distribution and economic growth between regions in Karawang Regency. The regional government hopes that this step in structuring the northern region can solve the chronic problem of waterlogging while increasing the comfort and safety of local residents. By enforcing humane, measurable and transparent regulations, it is hoped that the arrangement of this area will bring sustainable positive changes to the people of Karawang.
