Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Karawang Regency Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reminds the public about the importance of participation in the implementation of the 2026 Economic Census. Even though there is a legal umbrella that regulates sanctions for parties who are not cooperative, BPS Karawang ensures that a persuasive approach remains the main priority in the field.Functional Statistics Intermediate Expert at BPS Karawang, Mina, emphasized that census activities have a strong legal basis, namely Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics, which requires the public to provide honest and accurate data to country."For this census activity, officers have a legal umbrella to collect data from houses. So, if for example someone refuses, we actually have that legal umbrella and there are sanctions for those who don't want to provide data, in the form of a fine of several million and imprisonment for several months," said Mina, Friday (3/7).

Even though these regulations include criminal sanctions and financial fines, Mina confirmed that BPS Karawang has never implemented such repressive measures to date. Her party prioritizes a family approach and persuasive communication when meeting residents or business actors who are reluctant to be interviewed. In facing challenges in the field, especially in dense residential areas and apartments, BPS officers are required to carry out tiered coordination with building managers, village officials, and local RT and RW administrators before carrying out door to door data collection.Apart from that, Mina dismissed business actors' concerns regarding data security. He guarantees that all data collected is protected by law and is not related to tax obligations."We (BPS) have nothing to do with taxes at all. Whether taxes increase or not depends on state finances, not on our data," stressed Mina.To anticipate hoax issues, the public is encouraged to verify the authenticity of officers in the field. Official BPS officers are guaranteed to wear special vests, carry assignment letters, and be equipped with an identity card (nametag) with a QR Code that can be scanned to ensure the authenticity of their personal data.
