A number of residents were forced to be evacuated by a joint team, including an elderly person named Kimah (65) who had to leave his house due to high standing water. The evacuation process took place dramatically using a rubber boat from Pengasinan Village.Kimah was evacuated carrying what she had with her. He chose to flee to his relative's house which was in a safer location. Based on his account, the water started entering his house at around 12.00 WIB and continued to rise until it reached more than one meter.In the midst of his fatigue, Kimah revealed that this flood was not the first time it had hit his residence. This area has been flooded at least five times, and this incident was quite surprising because it took place in the middle of the dry season.Not only did it submerge residential areas, this flood disaster also caused damage to the agricultural sector. Kimah's rice field which had just been planted with rice was submerged and damaged. He admitted that he could not yet estimate the losses he experienced with certainty.
Meanwhile, Karawang BPBD Task Force officer, Kaming, said that the flood had submerged around seven RTs in Karangligar Village. Water began to enter the settlement since early morning around 02.00 WIB and continued to increase until the morning.Kaming added that the water level at the deepest point in the Pengasinan area reached around two meters. According to him, this disaster was triggered by high rainfall in the Karawang area and in the upstream areas of the Cibeet and Citarum Rivers which caused the rivers to overflow.This condition was made worse by the high water level of the Citarum River which triggered back water from Cidawolong. This causes the standing water in Karangligar Village to recede more slowly and widens the affected area.Until now, a joint team consisting of BPBD, TNI, Polri, Tagana and volunteers is still on standby to carry out sweeping. The team is trying to evacuate residents who still choose to stay, by directing them to the Karangligar Village Office, mosque and local PAUD building.
