Seputarkarawang.com - Karawang, The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, has officially given the green signal regarding the acceleration of the National Car (Mobnas) project in Indonesia. The government confirmed that the vehicles created by the nation's children will later be produced by PT Pindad through factory facilities located in Karawang, West Java. Airlangga emphasized that the industrial area in Karawang will be encouraged to increase its production capacity gradually in order to fulfill the country's great ambition for automotive independence. This strategic project is planned not only to focus on one type of vehicle, but will produce various models or multi-products. One of the models that is in the main spotlight is an electric sedan, a vision that was previously discussed by President Prabowo Subianto. It is hoped that Pindad will be able to become a driving force in creating a competitive electric vehicle ecosystem, as well as proving domestic manufacturing capabilities on the international stage through environmentally friendly technology. In line with this plan, Deputy Head of BP BUMN, Tedi Bharata, recently held an intensive meeting with the leadership of PT Pindad and BPI Danantara. This agenda focuses on steps to accelerate national industrial development in order to build a stronger, competitive and sustainable automotive ecosystem. President Prabowo Subianto himself has expressed his dream on various occasions for Indonesia to have a mass-produced national car. The President targets that by 2028, Indonesia will be able to produce electric sedans on a large scale. Apart from sedans, industrial strengthening is also directed at the commercial vehicle sector such as buses and electric trucks which are currently starting to show positive developments in terms of domestic production capabilities. The construction of a factory in Karawang is projected to become a new center of gravity for the national automotive industry capable of absorbing many jobs. The government is optimistic that the integration between PT Pindad and other BUMN ecosystems will accelerate industrial downstreaming from upstream to downstream. This step is also part of the government's efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of national industry amidst the global trend which is starting to shift to low-emission vehicles or Electric Vehicles (EV). Closing his statement, Airlangga hopes that the increase in factory capacity in Karawang can proceed according to plan in order to realize the dream of having a product that is proud of the country. Synergy between ministries, institutions and BUMN is the main key so that the large-scale production target in 2028 can be achieved. By strengthening this manufacturing ecosystem, it is hoped that Indonesia will no longer just be a world automotive market, but will grow as a major producer of technologically independent national vehicles.
